On 22 May 2019 DG Environment held a workshop, in which Eurits participated, on how the evaluation of the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) will be performed.
The meeting focused on DG Environment and their consultants (Ricardo) explaining the work that they intend to do. Daniel Calleja Crespo, Director General of DG Environment, Ian Hodgson, team leader for the IED at DG Environment and the consultant Ricardo have asked interesting high-level questions such as whether the right sectors and pollutants are covered by the IED.
On 27 May DG Environment launched a public consultation on an evaluation of the IED which includes very broad questions. Eurits will reply to the consultation before it closes on 4 September 2019. The public consultation will be accompanied by more targeted stakeholder discussions in the form of surveys; interviews and focus groups.
Eurits has been invited to participate in a survey which started in June. The focus groups are likely to be in September and October 2019. There will be a second stakeholder workshop in November. The overall aim is to do as much work as possible so that draft conclusions are available to present as soon as possible to the new Commission.
NB: This is an evaluation process and that there is no guarantee that this will lead to a proposal from the Commission to amend the IED.
